Super Hero Get Well Cards

I was suddenly in need of two get well cards...and at times like this I always wish I had a stash of cards made in advance to fall back on. Fortunately, I found the cutfiles for these two chibi super heroes which I made a while ago in my files.

I originally created the svg cutfile for this Chibi Wonder Woman image a few years ago for another get well card. I made a nearly identical card this time around, but with a different background paper and sentiments.

Inside, I used Karen Burniston's Katherine Label Pop Up mechanism to make Wonder Woman appear to fly up as the card is opened.

I used some older cutting files I had on hand to cut out four different sized clouds, attaching two of them onto the pop up mechanism. The paper pieced Wonder Woman image was then glued onto the clouds. The third cloud was cut as a print and cut with a sentiment, and I left the last cloud blank for a place to add a personal note and sign. All clouds were edged with Stickles glitter for some added sparkle.

For my second get well card, I used  Chibi Super Girl paper pieced images. The cutfiles for these were also created a few years ago but this was my first time using them. Everything else about this card was created identical to the Chibi Wonder Woman card.

Attaching the Super Girl image and clouds to the Katherine Label Pop Up mechanism also gave her the super hero powers she needed to fly up above the clouds!

I also put together a quickie matching gift card holder using a print and cut image of Chibi Super Girl attached to the front with foam tape for dimension.
Hoping I won't be needing too many get well cards in the future but I guess it's somewhat reassuring to know I can put these together pretty quickly if needed now that I've saved a template for this.

Welcome Baby Boy and Baby Girl

I was in need of two baby cards. One for a dear friend who had just become a new gramma, and  another for a nephew who welcomed a new baby girl. It was nice to be able to make the same card twice, but in different colors and with different sentiments.

I started by using a fancy label cut file which I had created a while back together with the print and cut function to add the sentiment and cut a layered window on the front of my cards. Next, I adhered a piece of clear acetate in between the white and pink/blue layers.

Sleeping baby bears you see through the window were paper pieced using the "Baby Boy Bear" cut file from Cuddly Cute Designs. Completed bears were then glued onto the negative piece of printed cardstock that I got from cutting the windows.

Inside, I used Karen Burniston's Katherine Label Pop Up Die.  As the cards are opened, baby bears asleep on a bed of clouds and the moon pop forward and "float" up to the top of the card.

I like using this pop up mechanism whenever I'm trying to get an image to appear to float or fly up into the sky. I've also seen this Katherine Label Pop Up mechanism used in a top fold card, and slimline cards that have two mechanisms in them... still so much to explore and experiment with this die!

You Are A Warrior Princess

This is the card I made to send to a very special young lady in our lives when we learned that she was going through chemotherapy after she had a recurrence of breast cancer. It broke my heart to hear the news, especially since she is the sweetest person with such a bubbly and effervescent personality. She always exudes a contagious kind of joyfulness to those around her. I wanted to send this card to cheer her on to stay strong!

I came across several of the cutest chibi style Wonder Woman svg files over at Etsy and thought they would be perfect for the message I wanted to send. I used lots of glitter and pearlescent cardstock as well as added accents of glitter glue on my paper pieced Wonder Woman to make sure she would stand out and wow!

On the inside, I attached a flying image of Wonder Woman to Karen Burniston's Katherine Label Pop Up mechanism.

As the card is opened, little chibi Wonder Woman pops forward and "flies" up above the top of the card. to "Rise above the storm"!

I enjoyed putting this card together, and I especially liked that the message inside is strong, caring and full of encouragement.

Looking For Rainbows

Everyone needs a little cheering up sometimes, right? I made this card to send to a friend who was going through a rough patch in her life about the same time that I too was going through sadness from having to put a beloved furbaby to rest. Focusing on making a card to help cheer someone else up seemed to help ease some of my own sadness.

My friend is a fan of all things kawaii and Hello Kitty, so I decided to use this Hello Kitty with umbrella image from the Hello Kitty Greetings Cricut cartridge. Cutting file for clouds and raindrops were created in Make the Cut and the grassy background border was cut using Lawn Fawn's Stitched Hillside die.

On the inside, I used Karen Burniston's Katherine Label Pop Up mechanism to animate my card. As the card is opened, a rainbow and Hello Kitty pop up and rise up to the top of the card.

Paper pieced rainbow and clouds cut file comes from Cricut's Once Upon A Princess cartridge. Cutting files for Hello Kitty with balloons and blue birds were created in Make the Cut design program from coloring book images. I hope that this simple card brought even just a little bit of sunshine into my friend's day!

Beary Special Birthday Wishes

I made yet another birthday card using the Karen Burniston Katherine Label Pop Up die. This die is fast becoming a favorite of mine as it can make the simplest of card ideas into fun, interactive cards. What's even nicer is that it's probably the easiest of all Karen Burniston's pop up mechanisms to put together.

So honestly for me, the most difficult thing about making this card was matching the colors. Purple... it's my sweet friend's favorite color. I often try to make cards in the recipient's favorite colors but I usually shy away from purple because I always have such a hard time matching tones of purple. Decided to stick to Easter/Spring colors to stay safe... hope I did okay!

Here's the inside of the card. As the card is opened, the label with the sentiment pops forward and up, giving the appearance the the balloons attached to the label are floating up...fun!

Paper pieced teddy bears, cake and gifts are from Marjorie Ann Designs. I used elements from three cutting files, "Take Time To Smell the Flowers", "Birthday Girl" and "Betsy Loves Baking" to put this card together. Stitched balloons were cut using Craft Emporium's Balloons Galore die set, and sprinkles and candles were cut from "Sprinkles Confetti" and "Cake & Stand" dies from Taylored Expressions' Little Bits collection.

Flying Tsuru Birthday Card

My mom's birthday was back in December but being that I notoriously fall behind with all my blog postings during the holidays, I always end up posting her birthday card several months late.

Usually I'm so focused on holiday crafts in December that I find myself struggling for ideas to make mom's birthday card. Thank goodness for Karen Burniston's Katherine Label Pop Up die. This pop up mechanism has pulled me through many creative slumps, helping to make even the simplest card idea into a special card.
This time I decided on using a paper pieced image of a Japanese Red Crowned Crane, or "tsuru" flying against the sun, a traditional Japanese symbol for good luck and long life. The tsuru and sun were positioned onto the pop up mechanism so it would partially show through the round front window while the card is closed.

As the card is opened the tsuru pops out and rises up, appearing to fly.

The pretty, glittered background cardstock is from the now retired Kimono collection from Best Creation, Inc. I chose it hoping it would add a soft feminine touch to the bold colors of the tsuru and sun. Stamped "Happy Birthday" greeting is from Darkroom Door Happy Birthday Sentiment Stamps set.

Baker's Birthday

I wanted to create a baking themed birthday card for my very dear friend who works at a bakery and often shares her delicious specialty breads and cookies with us at our monthly crafting club meetings.

Found several very cute baking/cooking themed digital cutting files over at Marjorie Ann Designsand couldn't resist picking up a few! For this card I took elements from three different Marjorie Ann Designs cutting files: "Betsy Loves Baking", "Payton Pumpkin Spice", and "Baking Boys".

I used Karen Burniston's Katherine Label Pop Up Die for the fun but simple pop up mechanism on this card. Hard to tell from this photo, but as the card is opened, the panel with the baker bear on it pops forward and rises.

I especially enjoyed putting together this fun border of paper pieced breads cut using the Marjorie Ann Designs"Baking Boys" file. All the pieces were cut from white cardstock and colored with Copics. Doesn't it look yummy?

Terribly TWO Cute!

Our little granddaughter celebrated her "Terrible Twos" birthday with friends and family when she returned home to Cali. Her momma planned a "Terrible Two Monster" themed party for her, using a set of cute monster digital invitations and images she picked up from Squawk Box Studio on Etsy.

I used Make the Cut Design studio to render the same monster image into a cutting file and paper pieced it together for our granddaughter's birthday card. I adhered the paper pieced monster onto a bracket style label and cut a window with the same shape onto the front of the card. Then I used Karen Burniston's Katherine Label Pop Up die to make this into a simple but fun interactive card.

As the card is opened, the panel inside the card pops forward and rises up. The neat thing is that the mechanism that creates all the movement can be placed anywhere along the fold of the card depending on high you want the panel to rise.

Before I go, I wanted to share some of the fun monster decor from the party, all planned and put together by my daughter's super talented and creative friend.

Adorable cake, cupcakes and rice krispie treats...

Here's the fun monster pinata filled with toys for the kids and the goodie bags for the guests. Looks like it was a lot of fun!

Let the Relaxation Begin!

Here's a fun retirement card I put together for a special lady who I used to work with. Although I myself am recently retired, I haven't had the opportunity to make many retirement cards yet so I needed to create a board on my Pinterest account to start saving ideas right away! The inspiration for this card came from a super cute and clever punch art retirement card that was created by Rochelle Peterson and posted on her blog, Creative Corner Studio.

To make this into a fun pop up card, I used the pop up mechanism from Karen Burniston's Katherine Label Pop Up Die so the teddy bear on the float rises and pops up as the card is opened.

The adorable bikini clad teddy and the float are paper piecing cut files from Marjorie Ann Designs: "Girls Just Wanna Have Sun" for the ring float, and "Beach Day Fun" for the teddy. The fancy labels  I used for the sentiments are freebie svg cutting files from Images by Heather M blog.
Kudos once again to Karen Burniston for coming up with this easy and fool-proof pop up mechanism die so everyone can create fun, "wowza" pop up cards everytime!
