BTS Birthday Surprise

One of my dearest friends has been a big fan of the K-Pop band BTS for as long as I can remember. With all the excitement of collecting BTS Tiny Tan dolls in McDonald's Happy Meals last year, the release of their new album and their world tour concerts happening now, I really wanted to surprise her with a BTS themed card for her birthday.

I found lots of cute chibi style clip art of BTS Tiny Tan characters on Etsy and decided to do print and cut images for this card. I chose my friend's favorite member, Jimin, doing the Korean love hand sign to adorn the front. "Just for you" sentiment was die cut from gold foil board using a die from Lawn Fawn's "Gift Box" set. Shadow layer for the sentiment was created in Make the Cut Design program.

Inside, I used Karen Burniston's "Photo Fan Pop Up" mechanism to animate headshots of all seven BTS group members.

Clip art images were cropped, printed on glossy photo paper, and framed with lavender glitter cardstock. I used dies from Karen Burniston "Label Charm Pop Up" and "Big Birthday Charms" as well as Taylored Expressions "Celebration Confetti" to cut streamers, confetti and hearts from gold glitter cardstock and foil board to add some fun glitz and sparkle inside the card.

I also added a print and cut group shot image to the left side of the card.

In keeping with the BTS theme, I also put together a sliding pop up drawer box using a fun BT21 claw machine sticker image. As the drawer is pulled open the image of the claw machine slides into an upright position. SVG cutting file template for this slider box comes from the Lori Whitlock shop. Really had fun putting this card and gift card holder together. But had the most fun watching my sweet friend's face light up as she opened her card. I'm looking forward to hearing all the stories she has to share from the BTS concerts she'll be attending soon.

Another Photo Fan Pop Up Floral Bouquet

As I mentioned last week, I have another Photo Fan Pop Up floral bouquet card to share this weekend.

Yes, this card is nearly identical to the card I posted last week except for the type of die cut flowers I used. This time around I used Spellbinders Big Blooms die set to cut the three different flowers you see in this card. For the leaves I used the same Karen Burniston Flower Pot Pop Up die I used on the other three cards of this style of card.

Flowers and leaves were glued onto the spokes of the mechanism from Karen Burniston's Photo Fan Pop Up die. Cutting files for the vase and bow were created in Make the Cut Design Program.

I added the same "70" flower pick  I made for last week's card which was created by gluing together numbers cut from Sizzix Boxed Brush and pick cut from Spellbinders Sealed Holiday Squiggles dies. This card counts as number four of the seven extra 70th Birthday landmark cards I challenged myself to make this year. Yay! Just three more to go!

I made another simple top fold gift card holder embellished with the same die cut flowers used on the card. I used Spellbinders Hexi-Gems Sentiments plate to hot foil and die cut the Happy Birthday sentiment.

Fan Pop Up Birthday Bouquet

A few weeks ago I shared a Daisy Pop Up Bouquet card I made for a friend which was inspired by a similar card created by R Daina Andretto on Karen Burniston's Pop Up Peeps Facebook Group. I enjoyed making that card so much that I decided to try another, with different flowers.

The flowers I used this time to fill my vase were die cut using Spellbinders Club Blooms set. The leaves are from Karen Burniston Flower Pot Pop Up die set  and  mini butterflies from an old Cheery Lynn Designs die. I used various colors of shimmery cardstock to cut two sizes of flowers, gluing them together with leaves onto the six spokes of Karen Burniston's Photo Fan Pop Up mechanism. As the card is opened the spokes of the pop up mechanism make the attached flowers and leaves pop forward.
To hide the lower part of the mechanism, I created a cut file for a tall vase, adding a fold to the center  and tabs to the sides. Tabs were glued it in so the vase would pop forward as the card is opened. Long green stems were glued onto the vase and covered with another vase cut from vellum to make it look like a glass vase. Cutting file for the bow was created from an image found online and added to the neck of the vase.
Since this card was meant to celebrate another friend's milestone birthday, I created  a floral pick by gluing on die cut numbers (Sizzix Boxed Brush) to a bow on a stick (Spellbinders Sealed Holiday Squiggles) and added it to the floral bouquet.

Lastly, this is the giftcard holder I decorated with the same die cut flowers and a hot foiled sentiment to match the card. Had fun putting this card together and will share another I made with different flowers again next week.

Daisy Fan Pop Up Bouquet

I have a fun birthday pop up card made for a special friend to share today.  I used dies from Karen Burniston's "Flower Pot Pop Up" die set to cut and assemble the daisies and leaves, adding flower centers cut using Spellbinders "Be Bold Blooms" die set.

For some sparkle, I added Stickles glitter to the flower centers and a few randomly placed AB sequins. Pink Fresh Studio's "Perfect Sentiments" was used for the hot foiled happy birthday sentiment and I created a shadow layer in Make the Cut Design studio to place behind it.

Inside, I used Karen Burniston's "Photo Fan Pop Up" die again to create this bouquet of daisies in a vase. The idea and inspiration for this comes from member R Daina Andretto who posted a beautiful card she made for Mothers Day using this technique on the Karen Burniston Pop Up Peeps Facebook Group.

In her card, R. Daina Andretto had her bouquet of daisies tied with a gold bow. I decided to put mine in a vase by creating a cut file for a tall vase with a crease in the center and tabs on its sides to glue it in place. I adhered strips of green cardstock to look like stems onto my white vase, then glued another vase cut from vellum over it to give it the appearance of a frosted glass vase. I also created a cut file for a simple bow to add to the front of the vase.

I really had fun putting this together. The mechanism for this pop up is made up of a half circle with 6 spokes to which the two sizes of daisies and leaf branches were attached. Checking for catch points by opening and closing the card each time a daisy or leaf was glued on assured that the finished card would pop open smoothly without snagging on anything. Although it's called the "Photo Fan Pop Up" die, I am loving all the different kinds of cards I've been able to create by gluing different embellishments other than photos to this pop up mechanism.

Butterfly Double Fan Pop Up Card

Pulled out my favorite Spellbinders "Delicate Butterflies" dies to make this fun birthday card twice for two very special friends. I used pearlescent cardstock for the butterfly wings, gold foil board for the bodies, and glitter cardstock for the shadows. Gold glittered flourish swirls were cut using a very old Quickutz "Flourish" die and hot foiled sentiment was created using Spellbinders "Be Bold Glimmer Sentiments" hot foil plates and dies. I also randomly glued on a few iridescent sequins for a teensy bit more sparkle.

Inside the card, I installed two of the mechanisms from Karen Burniston's Photo Fan Pop Up die for double the fun. I saw others doing this on Karen Burniston's Pop Up Peeps Facebook page and wanted to give it a try too.
Since the mechanism for this pop up consists of six spokes, adding a second one right below the first allowed me to add more than twelve butterflies to this pop up!

Of course the potential for catch points increased with this many butterflies but it wasn't too bad as long as I checked the positioning by opening and closing the card each time I added another butterfly. Both of the cards I made were for friends celebrating milestone birthdays so I diecut the numbers using Quickutz Studio Alphabet Set and adhered them to the base of the Fan Pop Up mechanism.

I also made a simple matching gift card holder by decorating  with the same diecuts I had used for the front of the birthday card and the word "celebrate" using Lawn Fawn "Celebrate Border" die.
I'm really enjoying the versatility of the Photo Fan Pop Up die I used for this card and am looking forward to playing with it again.

Daruma Pop Up Card

For my sweet friend Lorna, who enjoys all things related to Japanese culture and tradition, I created this Daruma themed birthday card.

The inspiration for my card came from this super cute Daiso shopping tote decorated with images of many colorful Daruma dolls.

I especially loved the different whimsical faces of each daruma on the Daiso tote, so I scoured the internet in search of cute daruma faces. After finding a few, I print and cut them and used them to piece together several daruma in fun, bright colors. Cutting file for the Daruma doll bodies was created in Make the Cut Design program.

On the inside, I used Karen Burniston's Photo Fan Pop Up die set to install the mechanism for this fun Daruma pop up.

The Fan Pop Up mechanism is made up of a half circle with six spokes, so I attached a Daruma doll to each spoke and three more onto the half circle. To hide the spokes, I attached three different sizes of cherry blossoms which  were die cut using the Cherry Blossoms Outline die from Wiki CAPS. Flower centers were punched from gold foil board using a Punch Bunch mini punch.

I decided to make a Daruma shaped gift card holder to go with the card. To do this, I enlarged the template for the Daruma body (with a window for the face) to be large enough to fit a gift card, and created a pocket by welding a blank mirror image to it for the back. "Make a Wish" sentiment was added using the print and cut function. Then I made an insert that would fit inside the Daruma "pocket" with the Daruma face printed on it, a pull tab, and tabs to hold a gift card.
I found it fun and challenging to create this Daruma pop up card and gift card holder.  I hope my sweet friend enjoyed it as much as I did putting this together!

Fan Pop Up Birthday Collage

This is the birthday card and matching gift card holder I recently created for a sweet friend .

I decorated the front of my card using my favorite "Club Blooms" floral dies from Spellbinders. Happy Birthday sentiment was cut from gold foil board using Hello Bluebird's "Happy Birthday Words" die. The white shadow layer behind the words was created in Make the Cut design program. I also added various sized clear flatback dew drop embellishments for fun.

On the inside, I was happy to finally have the chance to use the Karen Burniston "Photo Fan Pop Up" die to add some interactive excitement to the card. This was my first time using this mechanism and I really liked that it was so easy to install. It's a lot easier than the photo collage pop up mechanism I've used previously because there are very few, if any, catch points to worry about as the photos are added.

Since my friend's daughter posts family photos regularly on Instagram, I chose the photos I wanted to use for this card and had them printed as collage size prints at Walgreens, as suggested by Karen Burniston.

The matching gift card holder was kept simple, decorated with a happy birthday sentiment die cut from gold foil board using Lawn Fawn Happy Birthday Border die and more flowers cut from Spellbinders Club Bloom dies.
I really enjoyed using my new "Photo Fan Pop Up" die and am looking forward to using it often to create more fun pop up cards.
