Baby Shark 1st Birthday Card

I'm sure by now everyone who has a toddler in their life is familiar with the Baby Shark song gone viral by South Korean children's educational entertainment company, Pink Fong. Thought it would be a cute choice for making a birthday card for a special little boy in our family who recently celebrated his first birthday.

I picked up clip art images of Baby Shark with his family and ocean friends from Digital Custom Chris at Etsy and created paper piecing cut files for each using Make the Cut design program.

Decided to use a Bridge Fold or U-fold card style to create an ocean scene for Baby Shark and company.

View from the top shows the strut inside onto which Baby Shark is attached with a piece of clear acetate. I got the chance to play and practice ink blending with Tim Holtz distress inks and makeup foundation brushes again to create the ocean background. Adding random splashes of water droplets onto the cardstock after blending the inks resulted in the fun splotchy water marks.

Added our birthday wish for little Elijah on the backside of the Bridge Fold card.

And finally, here's the card folded flat to fit into an envelope. Had lots of fun putting this card together, while humming the Baby Shark song the whole time of course!

Beach Fun Wiper Card

I put together another wiper style birthday card  featuring Sanrio characters, this time using a fun beach theme.

Pulling on the right and left sides of the card simultaneously engages the wiper mechanism and Hello Kitty riding her dolphin jumps from the water!

Paper pieced Hello Kitty and her pals were put together from cutting files rendered from coloring book images using Make the Cut design program. All pieces were cut from black and white cardstock on the Silhouette Cameo, then colored using Copic markers.

I was excited to finally have the chance to play with toothbrush style foundation brushes and Tim Holtz distress inks to create the blended ocean backgrounds for this card. After seeing all the excitement online on various cardmaking sites about these foundation brushes, I purchased an inexpensive set from Amazon to give them a try. In the past I struggled with and was not pleased a with the results I got from using the foam blending tool to apply distress inks but I'm happy to say the foundation brushes worked like a charm! Looking forward to practicing more and learning to use different color combos to create blended backgrounds!
  

Thanks for Being PAW-some

Here's a quickie thank you card I put together for our furbaby's sitter just before we went on our vacation last month.

Paper piecing cut file for my puppy is from Treasure Box Designs' Dog Collection 2, which unfortunately, has long been retired, but continues to be a favorite of mine. There's still a large collection of newer puppy cut files to be found on the site, so be sure to check it out.

Once I had the puppy assembled, I mounted her onto a piece of cardstock that had been run through a Sizzix Pawprint embossing folder from their "Build A Bear" set to add texture. Sentiment inside the card is computer generated using LD Charming Light and CK Journaling fonts and pawprint clipart.

Fourth of July Fry Boxes

Happy Independence Day! I put together these fry boxes and filled them with chocolate chip cookies to share with friends we had lunch with yesterday.

Fry boxes are just the perfect size for holding half a dozen cookies and quick and easy to put together. I used a fry box template purchased from SVG Cutting Files and had fun decorating them with stars and stripes and a paper pieced Hello Kitty.

I used Cricut Hello Kitty Greetings cartridge for Hello Kitty; and the paper pieced flag she's holding was created from a clip art image found online. Vagabond font together with star shapes and shadows were used for the greeting on the back. Added some Stickles' glittery bling to Hello Kitty's bow and outfit then wrapped everything in a cellophane bag tied with a festive bow.
